Mountaintop Removal vs. Care of Creation

10 a.m. to 12 noon

Facilitator: Jeannie Kirkhope

As founder and director of the Appalachian Catholic Worker Farm and the E.C.O.Center in Spencer, W.V. her mission since 2002 has been to provide spiritual space and hope in the mountains by addressing issues of poverty and the environment through Education, Contemplation and Outreach.

Workshop: Mountaintop Removal vs. Care of Creation
Jeanne will be describing the lucrative coal extraction process called “MTR” and its effects, not only on the land, but on the poorest communities of Appalachia.  She will speak of our unintentional complicity in MTR, how the practice of it does not coincide with our Judeo/Christian tradition, and ways we can stop it.  A short video from the people’s perspective will be shown with Q & A to follow.
