AMAZING ANIMALS

 
Using the Center’s animals, students will learn how all animals adapt to their habitat. Students will look at skulls for clues and also interact with a variety of animals.

A YEAR OF OHIO WILDLIFE

 
Students will examine the changing of the seasons on a guided hike focused on observing how plants and animals adapt seasonally to take advantage of the environmental changes they experience here in Ohio.

RENEWABLE ENERGY  picture 4
Come to our center and see our straw house, solar array, and wind turbine. Do activities to show what happens to nonrenewable energy sources. Explore solar and wind energy with our solar cells and model wind turbines. Learn the advantages and disadvantages of different types of energy sources.

HABITAT

Explore different habitats to see what makes each one special. Hike in the woods, fields, and wetlands at the FELC as we examine the food, water, shelter, and space available in each unique environment.

EVERYBODY EATS

Explore the differences among herbivores, carnivores, omnivores. We will examine teeth arrangement, eye placement, and skull patterns shared among them and the reasons behind these patterns. Through role-play, students will also learn about and experience a variety of predator/prey relationships.

WEB OF LIFE

Field study, games and hands-on activities will help participants gain an appreciation for the interdependency and delicate balance of nature. We will explore the concept of community, and how all living and non-living entities are connected in the natural world. The cycles of life, food chains, and food webs will all be examined to show that all life is connected.

Discover the plant life of our woods, wetlands and gardens. Learn why plants are critical building blocks of life on earth. We will explore plant reproduction, seed dispersal, adaptations, and habitat needs.

Visit our farm, greenhouse, and chickens to learn how food is produced and grown. Discover the differences between processed and non-processed foods, and plant your own seed to bring back to school.
