Hands-on nature learning experiences for grades K–6

Overveiw

Since 1996, the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center (FELC) has provided hands-on, nature-based learning experiences for students of all ages. Our field trips encourage curiosity, teamwork, and sustainable living through fun, interactive lessons in science and the environment.

The Franciscan Earth Literacy Center recognizes our oneness with all creation. We promote active learning and healthy relationships with our natural environment to achieve sustainable living.

Kindergarten – Grade 3

 

  1. Going Green: Learn easy ways to reduce waste and recycle.
  1. Everybody Eats: Examine animal skulls and explore herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores.
  1. Nature’s Grocery Store: Visit the farm and greenhouse to learn how food is grown.
  1. Nature’s Recyclers: Discover how nature reuses and decomposes materials.
  1. Field Hike: Explore woods, fields, and wetlands at FELC.

  1. Soil Sleuths: Explore types of soil and the importance of composting.

Rocks Rock: Investigate types of rocks and the rock cycle.
Minerals: Test and identify common minerals.
Plant Discoveries: Explore plants and their adaptations.
Tree Detectives: Identify trees by their leaves and bark.
Web of Life: Understand producers, consumers, and decomposers.
Renewable Energy: Learn about solar and wind power.
Amazing Animals: Discover adaptations that help animals survive
