FELC Summer Camps

Camp Policies

Behavior Policy:

The Behavior Policy is used to ensure that FELC Summer Camps are safe and fun for everyone involved. We want all of our campers to have a positive experience, so we will do our best to work out potential problems with the child and parent/guardian before withdrawing any child from camp. However, FELC does reserve the right to remove a child from camp if their behavior is severely disruptive or creates any form of safety hazard. Fees are non-refundable if a child is suspended or expelled from the camp.

Last summer, we had several children who exhibited aggressive, oppositional behavior, and/or who were developmentally disabled which critically impacted their safety, the safety of other campers, and was outside the scope of staff’s ability to care for them. If your child requires one on one support for any of these issues, we are requiring that a guardian accompany them to camp in order to best handle their needs. If your child falls into this category, you must call us to discuss prior to the start of camp. If FELC Staff feels that your child requires one on one care after camp has started, it will be the responsibility of the parent to elect a guardian to accompany them to camp for the rest of the week or they will be unable to attend. Refunds will not be issued if parents do not disclose their child’s behavior or developmental disability with us prior to the start of camp.

Parents/Guardians of these campers will NOT be allowed to accompany any child, including their own, into the bathrooms due to FELC policy. They are expected to remain only with their child for the duration of camp.

Behavior Expectations:

  • use appropriate language at all times
  • cooperate with staff and follow directions
  • respect staff, other campers, equipment, and facilities
  • stay in the program areas
  • actively participate in activities

Examples of Unacceptable Behavior:

  • refusing to follow behavior guidelines or camp rules
  • refusing to participate in activities and/or disrupting activities for other campers
  • refusing to cooperate with staff
  • endangering the health and safety of other campers or staff
  • teasing or bullying other campers
  • fighting of any kind

Corrective Discipline Guidelines

When a child does not follow the expected behavior guidelines, we will take the following action steps:

  1. Staff will redirect the camper for more appropriate behavior.
  2. Staff will remind the camper of the behavior guidelines and rules and be asked to reflect on how he/she can correct his behavior.
  3. A camper may receive a necessary time out to calm themselves and correct his/her behavior.
  4. If a camper continues with inappropriate behavior, he/she will meet with the supervisor to discuss the situation. At this time, a phone call to a parent or guardian may be necessary. The parent may be asked to speak with the child or come to camp to pick up the child. Depending on the severity of the behavior, a child may be suspended or expelled from the camp.
